:) Well it's a sunny Sunday, about 60 degs here in the Sandhills of NC, so out for a spin in my '96. Just turned 59000 miles today also. Headed south down US 1 towards Rockingham. Hardly anyone around, saw no 'vettes. Top speed limit is 55 so you gotta kinda watch it but goosed it up to 75 on stretches where I could see, just to get the cob webs out. When you get down there, the venerable Rockingham Speedway comes into view. I'm a NASCAR fan and I finally move down here and they drop Rockingham as well as Darlington off the circuit. Turned around and headed back. When I drive on US 1 now, I can't help but remember that I drove that route when I got discharged from the Navy, labor day weekend in 1962. I had a brand new 1962 Red MGA at the time. US 1 was the main route, as 95 was still being constructed. I drove from Jacksonville, Fl to Long Island. Believe me the 'vette is a lot more comfortable then that MG was, but what the heck, when your 22 its just an adventure. Speaking of Jacksonville, I don't have a dog in the hunt, but "GO Eagles"

Howdy Chimknee and welcome to the site,

Speaking like a true North Carolineian. Where bouts are you in the sand hills? My hometown is just East of Larinburg. I hated to see Rockingham and Darlington dropped from NASCAR ricing. When I was growing up, those two races where the highlights of my summers. For the past 15-20 years NASCAR is just a name and even more so since the Winston Cup series is now history. I think that in the next 20 years that NASCAR will disappear because of its assoication with the big tobacco outfits.

When I was in high school during the summers I worked on the section of I-95 from Lumberton to SOB. Between that and working in tobacco I was able to buy my first car (Chevy Nomad). Wished I had it now because it would be worth a bunch of money.

Take care and maybe we'll meet up some day crusing the sandhills of N.C.
