Hey let me make a suggestion here.I am currently working on a 74 that caught fire behind the dash. This is an insurance job so the budget wasnt an issue but I would suggest buying a new harness if you can afford it .Over the years alot of bubbas owned these cars and added options and deleted options. It has not been a plug and play project but its been alot easier than trying to fix someone elses BS.If you assemble the dash in the correct order that they were from the factory ,it goes together quite smooth. This is not my car but I know that from now on I am a firm believer in replacing wire harnesses.Heres a pic. Some of you may have seen this ,sorry for the dupe.

Thanks for the info, I will check it out asap! I checked with my local auto parts store today and they quoted me $12.95 on a new switch vs $50.00 from all of my vette sources.

Could you tell me which side the ground is on the gauge cluster?

I'd be really surprised if the $12.95 switch from your local parts store would work. It may work for the lights, but probably will not have the vacuum ports required to pop the headlights up and down. Make sure it has the two vacuum ports and all the right connections before you buy it since most places do not allow returns of electrical parts. A correct switch will set you back about $45 from most any of the vette supply houses. I recently bought one from Dr. Rebuild for about that.

I don't recall that there is an actual ground wire/lug for the center gauge cluster. I believe it gets grounded either by the gauge connections themselves or maybe just through the mounting. I could be wrong here, but I just put mine back together last weekend and don't remember a specific ground hookup.

This JUST happened to me, or at least I just noticed it driving around tonight. It has all the same simptoms that have already been listed .... headlights work, interior dome light works when knob is turned, but the guages are completely dark.

I am taking care of this car while she is out of the country and I have yet to find the owners manual in the car, can someone give me a hint as to where the fuse box is located for all the cabin electircal??

Yeah im a newby BUT I actually used the search button for this topic
