IF MY MANUAL FAN SWITCH I NEVER LET IT GET ABOVE 195*F. NORMAL HIGH WAY SPEED IS ABOUT 180*F.

tuesday:
crawled under passenger side . found what i believe to be the electric motor that vig told me contoled the "magic" door that controls heat.
does this motor have a long arm come out of it..head inside toward the heater core? if so ..where does this arm go to? it looks like it attaches to the side of the heater core.
i took off the bottom of the heater core { black plastic} shield. so that way i could look up inside and see the heater core and the electric arm thingy .
i did notice that the arm had a movable joint on it near the core. it was quite rusted. i tried to get this arm to move. i twisted it..i tired turning it.. it wont move.
AM I CLOSE TO THE PROBLEM:BOW VIG? or should i just keep driving my 1986 buick skyhawk wagon hanging my head in shame....
ps...the wagon makes tons of heat:L

If you get the motor loose.. you can get it
to turn... to check if the motor is working. But NOW it should give you an error code...
So the Door inside ( or the connecting rod) should pull in & out to move that door.. the door either blocks air going thru the heater core ( by routing around it).. or letting the air go thru it.
The door should be ( I think ) closed now ( or twds the firewall) you should be able to pull the rod towards you and OPEN the air door to allow flow over thru the heater core.

As far as driving that other car... I would.. save your baby from the elements!

canada you have the right man on the job! Vig is the vette king...
Vig did you tell him to check the hot water control valve? It should move when you adjust the temp. (located on a heater hose in the engine compartment, near passenger firewall)
I thought this took the heater core out of the cooling loop?...

The 88 dosen't have that valve
