Have you checked for spark?
Checked for fuel?

With no spark, check if the HEI has 12V. If so check the sparkcap, and other parts. If everything looks normal then I think the spark module in the HEI needs to be replaced.

removed my air pump on my 1981

what do i do with the tubes on both sides of the manifold.with car running you hear like a popping.is there a way to close them up

I've heard of people welding the holes to close them up. Easier route is to buy new headers for it.
