I have a problem with my 1995 Corvette LT1 P VIN code. I am not getting spark while trying to crank the car but it is discharging the coil when you let off the key. This all started happening a week after i went through some water and it stalled out. I have replaced the optispark, coil, and ICM. I also have the repair manual and yet i cant find any thing else that could be causing the problem. Is there any thing i may be missing or could try to find out what is going on? Do the LT1s have a crankshaft position sensor or a cam sensor?

No spark

I had the same problem you have, I replaced every part on the front of the engine, and still no spark. I finally traced it down to the coil wire, where it goes into the Opti. The boot on the wire was split, and it was shorting on the water pump! You have to examine the boot carefully. It appears to be good, and when you twist the boot, it will show the split!

I hope your problem is as simple as mine was.

i really wish it was that easy of a fix, but the plug wires are new too.. Thank you for your reply.

95s didn't have a crank sensor or cam pos. sensor...96 used a crank sensor for miss fire detection only. I know it won't start..but have you checked for codes?

nothing came up, someone is going to hook it up to a tech 1 for me in a few minutes, if they show up to see if they can get any thing.

Check every frigg'n ground in the front of that car!!(I believe there are 17 wires in 10 locations!):thumb Also check the pigtail that plugs into the opti at opti and at the plug under the right fuel cover and the Main harness behind the engine!!(There prone to chaff between the firewall and left head!

Well I feel really stupid right now. From what I read about replacing the optispark is it will only go back in one way. Well that was wrong its setting 120 degrease off. Thanks for the help; I will let every one know later tonight if I get it running.

Also the plug wire is messed up. It has a small cut in the side of the wire, which is where I was loosing spark.

It "Will" only go 1 way,if you got it 120* out all the way on by forcing it with the bolts!!
Congratulations,You've "Phocked" your OPTI! !:D

Got it running, being a aftermarket opti all the slots were big enough for the pin to fit in.
I have read at various places, on the Internet, about the later version (vented) Opti being put on incorrectly even though there is an alignment pin.

This is virtually impossible with the early Opti because of the keyed drive / spline gear. I am sure someone could manage to muck-up the spline though.
