Hey everyone,

I drove in the rain for the first time in a while, and found out my wipers don't work. What is the best way to troubleshoot this?

If someone knows what wires should have 12V with each wiper setting, I would appreciate it.

A 2nd question: the ends of the wiper blades hit the edge of the trim around the glass. Is there any way to adjust this so they don't swing out so wide?

Thanks!

First step is check the fusebox for a blown wiper motor fuse. The Pink wire is 12V and the black wire is ground. If you get no voltage to the motor, them start checking the intermittant wiper module or the switch itself.

2nd Q:
There are 2 nuts on either of the wiper linkages in the well in front of the windshield. Loosen them and slide the linkage to position the wiper arm up or down.
It's important that the arm on the drivers side comes back down to rest on the clip in front of the windshield when off, and no further. And the passenger side should just rest horizontally above on the other one in the parked position.

Always a good idea to use Rain-X, in case the wipers go out on you.

I put on the shortest wipers I could find. I don't remember the exact length.

I"ll take a volt meter to it and see what has power.

Now I'm Confused.....

My Plan: disconnect the pink (mine looks red) wire so I could check for voltage with the wipers on.

Disconnected the wire. Turned the wipers on.
They worked.
They also flung some tools into my engine compartment.

I reattached the red wire.
The wipers still work.

I don't know why they didn't work before.
I don't know why they work now.
I REALLY don't know how they worked with the wire disconnected.

The black (ground) was still connected, and so was the 4 wire harness that plugs into the motor.

HELP!!!!!

I just went through this on my 81,there is a wiper control relay in either the center console area or behind the passenger seat under the storage compartment.Hope this helps.Aloha

Do you have the GM Shop Manual? It will have a diagnostic procedure for the wipers, controller, relay, etc.
