What is normal operating temperature?

What kind of temperatures should I see on my 2000 C-5 when on the highway, and when in the city, driving behind traffic? In town the temperature will go as high as 223 degrees, and out on the highway I will see the temperature run about 193 degrees. I know by the guage this is not alarming; would you consider this normal temperature range? I am assuming I have a 192 degree thermostat. Just want to make sure there is nothing to worry about before I leave on the CAC Crusie Fest to Bowling Green.

not to worry

Hi,
The temps you are seeing are perfectly normal. Actually, the high side could go as high as 226-227f. Remember, you car has electric cooling fans and the thermostat won't kick them on until about 226F. Even sitting in traffic, you will see the temp drop once the fans kick in. The high way temps are normal as well. My '01 normally runs 192-198 on the highway, depending on the outside temp and how hard I'm driving.

Good Luck,
Dave

Thanks Dave for getting back to me on this; I didn't think it was a problem just wanted to see what some of the rest of you were experiencing in town and on the highway. I thought my C-5 had a 192 degree thermostat but I just read last night were the factory thermostat is more than likely 195 degree thermstat. Also the article didn't reccommend putting a lesser degree thermostat unless it was for off-road use. Are you going to make it down for this years Cruise Fest in Bowling Green?

Thanks again,

Hi Bill,
I did a check through the Specs on your C5 in the 2000 Model Center. While there's an incredibly detailed amount of information about your model Corvette, unfortunately, normal temperature operating range is not one of them. I tend to see my '03 Z06 generally settle around 210-F.

Thanks for the come back Patrick, I didn't think this was anything to get alarmed about or anything, just curious as to what others run. Are you ready to head south to Bowling Green next week?

Looking forward to meeting the folks from CAC.
