1982 Silver Coupe (Sold!), New C5 in 3 weeks!
Hi Guys,
Whilst visiting my local tuning shop today, I noticed that they sell NOS systems for a pretty reasonable price. Now as part of my quest for more power I am considering installing a system early next year in my 1982 Corvette.

My Corvette has had a full engine out rebuild just 6000 miles ago so is nice and fresh for performance mods. Current power is rated at 226BHP. I'm installing roller rockers this weekend and a couple of K&N air filters to my modified airbox (open air filters). Hopefully this should coax 235 BHP out of the engine.

Now, I'm thinking of installing a NOS System with 50 BHP injectors via foggers mounted to point into the throttle bodies, setup with an arming switch and that will only operate under full throttle conditions.

Questions then:-

1. Can my 1982 350ci engine take the extra power?

2. Is the stock 1982 Corvette transmission/mechanicals man enough for the job?

Any extra thoughts on this will be appreciated!!!

Cheers

69MyWay,
Seriously? What is the worst that can happen?

...bearing in mind that a 50 Bhp shot is fairly tame?

NOS on a 82? thats is unique! I say go for it, and show those damn ricers that America could take NOS. People at school seem to think NOS can only be put in Japanese cars.

Hi Zektor,

Where do you buy your bits from, I`m ready to spend some more and get mine sorted so it will definately be back out on the road early next year and also thought about nitrous as a cheap power adder.

Is it an ajustable kit or a fixed 50hp set-up.

Cheers
J.

Your tranny should handle the nitrous without much issue. If it doesn't? Well...replace it with a 700R4... :L
:bu

I can't remember what page it was....

BUT THERE IS A BETTER INTAKE OUT FOR THE '82!

Basically, it looks like a Dominator intake manifold with an adapter housing bolted on top, machined to accept the 82 TBI system.

It looks like a solution to the "half-height" runners on the CFI.

I'd buy this forst and then mess with NOS.

Good luck

JHL,
The place that I have started visiting is "Real Steel" in Uxbridge. They've been running a 2 page advertisement in the front of Street Machine magazine for ages. I've seen their advertisement quite a lot in the past... but I've always thought of them as a V8 engine parts supplier rather than selling a load of performance related bits. I visited them the other day to pick up some standard pushrods... they gave me a catalogue that was full of performance goodies and regular parts... all for prices that were cheaper than I could source them in the USA.
They supply full/half crate engines, transmissions + parts + rebuild kits etc. All manner of Camshafts etc... And NOS!!!!

In their catalogue the genuine NOS kits range from about £375 up to about £850. Plus they sell all the extra bits you might need... arming switches, guages, bottle heaters. It looks very interesting and for not too much money... that's why I am considering such a system for my car. Also, the fogger kit I am interested in can take jets from 50bhp upto 150bhp.

JHL,
Sorry, made a mistake... the system is adjustable from 50 Bhp to 250 Bhp.

I know of Real Steel and have visited before with a mate who bought a gearbox from them for his Trans-Am. Thanks though, the nitrous is a relatively cheap way to a couple of hundred horse power provided the bottom of your engine is ok so I have been thinking about it.

The Air Gap intake I have has the bosses on it for a direct injection NOS to be plumbed in. One minor problem is where to put the bottle in a Vette, they won`t let you race at York with a bottle inside the passenger compartment.

Thanks
J.

One issue to consider. A shot of NOS creates a lean mixture in the engine. How are you going to richen your cross-fire system to compensate for this.

Personally, I'd avoid it. It is not "something for nothing" and unless you don't care, it will prematurely take the bollocks out of your engine...

Page62,

Systems are available for fuel injected cars and it will be possible to plumb a line from the existing fuel pipes to the petrol solanoide, if any thing it will be an advantage as it already has a reasonably high pressure system.

The downfall of a lot of NOS instalations that I have seen is low fuel pressure at high rpm. So long as you have good mechanicals and a good fuel delivery system there should be no problem and with todays electronic boxes of tricks that are available gas can be introduced progressively or only at certain rpm`s.

I say go for it Zektor, then if you do happen to blow up it might be a good source of parts for me, as relatively speaking you are just down the road. :L :L :L

Go for it!!!
I havent seen you on the Crossfire Inj Vault in a while. :w
Theres a few people running it over there now,up to a 200hp shot.

There a NOS kit made for the crossfire setup. The specific Crossfire NOS kit got the number 5125.
Summit's got it, look at http://www.summitracing.com/ and Summit part no NOS-05125
The L83 that came in the 82 has forged flattop pistons and should have no problems handling a 150 hp shot.In the tech section theres a tip about making your rear tb's fuel pressure regulator adjustable,so you can richen it up a bit.A common mod is to change the fuel pump to an 85 and up pump for more fuel flow. Just a sugg..... i have an 82 ad was thinking of perf. mods to do before i decided to ditch the xfire...... the xram is a good intake on
its own. i recently saw an 84 that had an xram and a 150 shot of nitrous, and it was directally injected into the bottom manifold. he basically drilled holes into the bottom runners and plugged in nitrous injectors. when i saw this guy i didnt get to ask him how he changed the fuel management to compensate for the nos....... but maybe making a system like his his might work?
