I've been going over the idea (for about a year now) of purchasing and installing the faux, Z06-style rear-brake cooling ducts on my coupe. I initially wanted to buy the functional ducts but I'm not for cutting into the rocker panel of my vehicle. More than likely I would take it to the local Corvette-only dealer/shop and have them do the installation......but that will tack on $70/hr. (labor) to the already $280+ I have to spend on the ducts. My only worry is the value of my car depriciating if I install the stick-on version. What should I do? Spend $80 bucks and get the style/look that I'm going for or be a man, suck it up and spend the $400+ on the real deal? Help me out, People!:( ;help

MAN, spend the $400 and enjoy the car. It's not collecter car(YET)
so do what make's you feel better. I think the vents look
bad ass. :w

I agree,

it's your vette, do what makes YOU happy!

Were it me...I'd trade it in and get a Z06. :D How much more expensive can it be?
Heidi

Heidi, sounds like your getting an itch for the Z06. :w

Nah...I like my simple, 25 year old vette that's paid for. The new vehicles have too many buttons for my liking.
However...I would sure like to get Kenny his OWN vette and I know he'd love a Z06. :D
Heidi

i say suck it up and cut a hole in it to make them work. if you jsut stick them on you could say you officially joined the "ricer" class of corvettes. make them work or leave them on the store shelf

Heidi:

I wish it were that simple!:D Most importantly, I don't like hardtops. When they start putting the LS6 in a coupe body, then I'll buy. Also, the depriciation of my car in the past year is so dramatic, it's going to cost me a fortune to get out of it (i.e. trade or sell out-right). I'm not ready to dig into my savings account just yet. It's been 2 mos. since I've driven my current Vette. I don't want to spend more money on something I'm not going to drive.:) I'm hoping by Dec. I'll have enough saved up to sell it.

I'm convinced. I'll spend the doe and "do the right thing!"

Thanks everyone,
Kenny

I wish buying a new car were simple, too.

This is why I prefer my older one, even with all its' 'old age' problems and having to replace so many systems on it. I just can't wrap my mind around how much depreciation there is with new vehicles. I find it boggling!
Good luck with whatever you decide.
Heidi

I agree. Three of my last four purchases have been new vehicles and I've taken a hit each time. I told myself recently that I will never buy new again. I'll let someone else take the hit and buy pre-owned from now on.

Thanks, Heidi.

Always plan to keep what you buy and you will never have to worry about depreciation. Any car I buy (I have 4) I intend to keep a minimum of 10 years.
It is called long term value.
Besides......think about it......we're talking corvettes here.

2 mos i drive mine almost every day you need to drive it more its just begging for attention. Honestly i would do the FUNCTIONAL ones. The other one have no benefit except adding on weight. Hes right dont fall into the rice!

Thanks for the link. That's about $100 cheaper than I've seen anywhere. Definitely appreciate this!

-Kenny

Without a doubt you should make them functional, other wise whats the point? JMHO

Go with the real thing, i think people will laugh at the stick on ones. I plan on doing this mod this winter. I would try it yourself and save a couple hundred.

There's a guy in my club that has the stick on ones. They don't look bad but what's the point. They make him look like a Z06 poser. The functional ducts are useful. Those are what I would go with. :beer

Thanks. You guys are right. After thinking about it, I don't think I would be happy with the fake set. My car is on the market now so any mods is out of the picture. If I can't sell it then I will definitely get the functional ducts.

Thanks for all of your input,
Kenny

wait a minute, you bought a corvette here as an investment????????????!!! that's what i am kinda hearing here. i bought mine for fun, racing etc. most of all to drive everyday possible. in syracuse ny thats less than 6 months.
if u want them on your car and are capable of doing it yourself, then do it! enjoy it!. if you have to pay someone in order to enjoy, do it! u only go around once and they say u can't take it with u!.
u have to ask ur self, "can i afford this?" if u answer yes, then its simple. but if u have to "justify" this for whatever reason our silly little brains can congure up, then u have lost it!
u bought it, its ur's, have fun and stop trying to justify it. but make sure u can afford it! u will be a happier person! i am.

Roger that....

...I understand where you're coming from, VETE76. My mind works too much....that's the problem. I can afford it....but I always say to myself, "Is it worth it???....I could spend the money more wisely on something I REALLY need, etc." Don't get me wrong, I'm not wealthy but I'm comfortable. Sometimes I spend money and don't think twice (prime example: the Vette itself) and other times I ponder upon it for months before I make a decision.

My final decision is [as stated in my previous thread]: My car is currently for sale. If I don't sell it due to not getting what I want as a price, then I'll spend the money and put them on.

Thanks for the input everyone.....or better yet, thanks for the :SLAP

-Kenny:)
