Without a doubt you should make them functional, other wise whats the point? JMHO

Seeing as how the front brakes do 90% of the braking, and those vents are fed from the side, I think even the functional ones are pretty worthless. If you want the look, go with the stick on. If you want better braking, change your focus to the front brakes....start with better pads.

I couldn't agree more strongly with leaftye. Spend your money on something useful. If nothing else get all your fluids changed!
