man i hate this... the colder weather is upon us and the frost is on the car in the mornings as i go take my co-pilot to school..... and these cars ARE NOT made for the cold weather... i can warm it up for 15 miutes, drive him to school and still have to drive to the bar to do my daily cleaning looking through a little periscope of clean windshield trying not to get myself killed along the way...... just another sign that winters coming...........i hate winter!!

I've never had that problem ;shrug.
True it takes a little while longer to warm up a V8...but the cabin is so much smaller than most cars I find it gets toasty quicker. I just use wiper fluid to deice windshield:w

I am running a 160 degree thermostat in Chicago. I never have a problem warming up my Vette even on the coldest days. I get good heat in about 5 minutes and in about 10 minutes I have to turn the temp down!

Maybe you have an issue. ;shrug

IN THE MEANTIME, SAVE THE :w

You could invest in a remote starter. I have a Code-Alarm alarm system on mine and it includes remote locks and remote start. I also got the long range antenna and I can fire up the car from 1/4 mile away. It can be configured to feed power to A/C, heat, etc. as needed. It runs for 20 minutes, and can also be used for Quick-stops that let the engine keep running while you remove the key and hop out to make a quick purchase. It's made for Auto-shifts but can be modified for manual too. (real pita).
I think I paid $500 for the unit including installation. Our older cars are easier to install because there's less stuff to disconnect or "work-around".

I also have never had the problem of not warming up but my cars go into strorage during the winter but you may consider installing an engine block heater
My wifes 89 vert has a factory engine block heater that is still on the car and has never been used
You can see on the build sheet it was ordered with the heater KO5

Hey 89sleeper.
I see that you store your vettes on a 4 posted storage lift.
I was wondering if you can service your vehicles and work under them, while up the lift?
What kind of lifts do you have and what do you recommend?
I'm interested in purchasing a 4 posted for my 90 and 94 vetes.
Any info or advice or recommendations will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Tom.

I have an 85 that runs very cool and takes a while to really warm up, I believe the reason is that there is an auxillary oil cooler on both our models, 84 & 85, that helps keep the temp cool. In your county, it gets cooler sooner, I'm in Orange county, a little better, you're in the 'snow belt'. You have to think positive: it makes a great summer car:)

yea i wasnt really lookin for an answer here, although i appreciate it... i was just complaining about it..... when its below 20degrees i dont care what you drive.... it seems like forever to warm up!

I had a old 1994 escort that did this windows would fog up worse with the defroster on. found that car had a seaping heater core after replacing it never had the problem again. when they do that its just enough to allow a lot of moisture into the car and generally you don't see a leak but windows get like a blueish film on them.

K05-Engine Block Heater

I have had an engine block heater in every car [7] since my '79 Impala. It is the greatest thing since sliced bread! When the heater is hooked up, even at -20, I drive about 1/2 mile and the heat is coming out of the heater. It always starts, and takes much less time to warm up. I have found that the factory installed heaters work the best. I haven't tried the one in our 2008 Suburban, but that was the first option I checked when we bought it.

Tom, here is a good thread on lifts. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31025

I also bought a four post lift and yes you can do maintenance as well as store the vehicle. Here is another thread I started about the transition that took place after I got my 4 post lift.
