I have lifted my Vette on front with a floor jack, placed some jack stands for safety, and I have reached for the cable end that pulls on the latch. I have pretty good reach with my arms, but if you don't, just use an equalizer (hooked wire) and tug on the cable. You only need to tug on it about 1/2 inch or so (if cable is broke) and a bit more is something is preventing the latch from backing out. Good luck!
