Good Morning:
I use my '81 in the real world (e.g., app. 450 miles yesterday roundtrip from Houston to see President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas and back in 100 degree heat), and am looking to install an oil cooler as this car sees lots of high speed work--I use Red Line Synthetic given the oil temperatures, but still want to bring it down. Has anyone installed an oil cooler in an '81 (biggest problem to me seems to be where to put the thing/route hoses)? I was thinking about going to a larger oil pan, but when you really start checking into that all sorts of other issues/problems crop up, too, and the general ignorance among many of these performance aftermarket suppliers is amazing (sorry for the dig at these guys, but I dare say all of us who have experience dealing with the performance aftermarket have had much the same experience). Incidentally, I got to about three miles before the ranch before the roadblocks stopped me (no surprise--but I tried), but the road leading from Crawford to the ranch is terrific---lots of sweeping 90 degree-ish turns, and the road is surprisingly hilly and, in parts, wooded. Lots of fun, but had to watch for the Secret Service Suburbans which when comming at you would take up most of the road. It was wild to see these cars, and the limos with the thick glass windows, running around ranchland with cows, etc.
