oil pan color

just out of curiosity. what color should the oil pan on my 72 454 be.

i have seen black and orange

which is correct

I'm thinking block color would be correct since the pan was installed when the engine was painted.

cool,

i started scraping the old black paint off of the pan and ran across the oem orange underneath it so i guess that answers that.

now if i can just this one piece gasket back in with no leaks life will be great

I think the complete motors were orange, never seen a motor with two colors in the c-3's. Blue started in 77, I think. Never seen black,.

got it,

the previous owner for some reason painted it black. i had a gasket leak so i pulled the pan to fix it. i didnt think it was supposed to be black but there it was. once i started scraping it the original orange started to come through.

Orange till 77, GM Blue till 82 and black from 84 on. If I'm correct.
