Oil pans

At some point in time I will probably replace my standard 4 qt. pan with one from the aftermarket, largely to try and increase capacity and reduce oil temperature a bit (I would like to stay away from the extra plumbing of an oil cooler). I am concerned about clearance (both ground clearance and clearance of things such as the power steering piston rod), and wonder if anyone can recommend a replacement pan that does not have clearance problems. I have looked at Milodon, Moroso and Canton, yet have never felt comfortable with the advice I have gotten from the various technical departments. Also, do people prefer the Fel Pro of the Mister Gasket one piece oil pan gaskets?

The Milodon 7 quart will fit with no problems (that's what I've got). You will need a new pickup also.

Use the one piece Fel Pro gasket...it's around $30 from Summit

Thank you very much for the Milodon recommendation. I suppose this is the 7 qt. "kick out" model? If you have an oil temperature gauge, did you notice any drop in temperature? Also, did you use your standard dipstick, but just mark it differently?

It is the "kick out" model.

You fill the pan with 7 quarts and then remark the dipstick.

That pan MUST be used with a windage tray so if your car doesn't have one, my 81 didn't, you have to buy a windage tray and the bolt kit also.

Don't have an oil temp guage so I can't help you there. 7 qts vs 4 means the oil in the sump has to be cooler as it's not circulated as often.
