Oiul Pressure Reading

The oil pressure guage on my '88 always reads exactly 80 psi. I'm thinking that's impossible. It seems to me to be a bad sender or something.
Anyone have any ideas on this?

Hey Buckeye....

Yep it is the sending unit. When it goes bad it pegs the gauge right on 80. It is a bear to get to as it is underneath the distributor. Some folks remove the wiper motor to gain easier access, I have seen some remove the distributor., Me I just remove the distributor cap, and while in there I replaced both units just to be safer then sorry...good luck.

Sending unit...

remove wiper motor, remove distributor; that will give you enough room to get at it

the sender itself looks like a fuel filter, there's another switch back there too that you should replace also stuck into the back of the intake manifold.

#12 is the oil pressure sending unit: GM #14078954 AC Delco is same number.

14 is the switch Vader was referring too. GM #25036936 AC Delco #D1818

Thanks all. I'll pick up both parts. Sounds like a "Winter" project to me at this point.
