I had my 2000 corvette in the shop Monday due to failure of my serpentine belt tensioner. The car began to overheat and threw all kinds of service engine soon messenges. Since it has been repaired, it runs great but the oil pressure gauge remains pegged at 80 psi. The manual says that anything between 20 and 80 is normal. I do not recall monitoring the pressure prior to my recent problem. I am wondering if this is normal for the pressure to be at the top of the gauge at all times. I live in south Georgia and it is routinely 90 degrees in the afternoon. Thanks for your help.

I have a new 2002 same thing

I noticed the same thing, new oil change 5w-30 mobile one and oil is clean as butter with me driving superfast back from LA, I clicked through the digital guages and saw 130 psi and analog guage is at 80? my 85 nightrider dash says 63 psi most of the time, so I also read the same thing, is this a failed sensor? better high than low, but how high is too high, funny I was going to start a thread and saw this posted, 2 of us going ;shrug;shrug:W:W;shrug;shrug..

Anyone of you brainiacs that can shed some light? there are some really smart members out there who have helped allot, this one has me stumped ??. thanks

Welcome to:CAC

Sounds like the oil pressure sending unit went bad, It's a common problem in C5. Changing it however is a pain. To get to it you must remove the intake manifold. Some people resorted to drilling holes in the body in order to gain better access for future changes. Search threads for oil pressure sending unit and you will find all the do it yourself ways of fixing it. Good luck, Zig.

cutting a hole is easy
pulling the intake is easy

I've done it both ways and now just use the hole

With air tools I can R&R an intake in less then 20 minutes

Through the hole I can swap the sensor in 15 minutes

I prefer not having to replace any gaskets so I use the hole
