Ok, bought a couple sets of ramps with extensions and they are both too narrow for my rather normal sized fronts (275s) ----
What is the deal? What should I be looking for? How do I get a proper and SAFE lift for my C4? (for maintenance/oil changes etc)
Please have patience and share your insight and knowledge! :)
Any other type of lift with jack stands?

Thanks so much. :)

I'm a floor jack kinda guy~

But I ALWAYS use jack stands as well.

And as far as floor jacks go... bigger is USUALLY better... measure the height that you need to squeeze under the car..

THEN look under the car and find the actual FRAME.. ( some people jack up in the wrong place and it COSTS!)

I bought the Rhino ramps for mine (you can pick 'em up at Pep Boys now for around thirty bucks). I use a small piece of 3/4" plywood to ease access to the ramps and they accomodate a 275 tire with no problem whatsoever.

If I have the front of the car on the ramps, and it is securely chocked so it doesn't stand a chance of moving, or I have the front end on jackstands, I can lift the rear of the car by placing a floor jack under the differential to raise the rear. I don't have to be concerned with the rear Y-pipe because my side exhaust eliminates that piece, therefore I don't need something like the Jack-a-Vette. (That item replaces the pad on your floor jack with a piece designed to fit between the Y-pipes and lift the car by the differential. You can easily make your own and save fifty bucks.) ;)

Even with the car on ramps, you should still utilize jackstands to ensure your safety. :upthumbs

Oh, and as Mike points out, use the factory jack points for lifting the car from the side, otherwise you will damage the floorpan. ;)

Actually, if you have a GM manual for your car, it will show you all of the key places for lifting your Corvette. :D
