Ok don't flame me.... I didn't check the archives about this because I wanted to see if any of you guys ran into this on your C-4.. The passenger side power window works fine except every now and then it will quit in the middle of travel. Then I'll screw with the window switch for about 10 min and it'll start to work again. I have pulled the switch and it checks ok.

Sometimes it will work ok for months and then all of sudden it will screw up again. My thinking is that there might be a flat spot in the motor and when it stops it's at the flat spot that's all she wrote.
The Vette is a 86.

Have any of you had this happen and what was the problem???

Let me ask you a question or two...Have you listened closely when the window stopped working to hear if the window is running? Does the window seem to not work at the same height? ....The reason I ask is I think the early 86's still had the ribbon style
yb.dll
regulator, opposed to the scissors style.
yb.dll
...If you can hear the motor, you may have a bad spot on the ribbon. (common) ....you may also want to check the ground. I think the ground is on the lower door piller behind the sill...

Heh JonM... Thanks for the excellent reply..... The window and the motor just stops dead.!! No Sounds at all..
Na -Da..!!

But that ground thing soudns like a plan.. Didn't know where that ground was ..but thanks to you I'll check that one out..!! It's like the motor just stops dead.. Then I beat on the door wiggle the switch and 5-10 min later it's back again.

Anything else you can think of.????

I would switch switches...lots of crap falls into the switch in 20 years....be careful...20 years makes for brittle plastic. You can get a switch and bezel for the switch @ corvettecentral.com...

SWITCH
594339 13.95EACH
BEZEL

I agree, Wouldn't hurt changing the swithces out. 20 years is a long time for something to consistently work.
But I am going with gremlins on this one. My 87 has the gremlins too. The car does certain things sporadically. Can't explain it, So I just say gremlins.

Thanks for the replies....Guess I'll try the switches...too.. Any one else want to take a stab...??

Could be a short in the switch.

Get some electical contact cleaner, be sure to read the can to make sure it won't dissolve plastic.Flush out the switch and see if it improves. I have done this with a number of switches with good luck.

As long as you have the console up change the switch from the left side to the right side ....then give it a try if the problem goes to the othe r side you found it.. Caution Do not buy cheap switches because they will not last..get factory orignal GM #10092804
hope this helps
