BACKORDER! BACKORDER! I've been trying to order a FUEL PUMP for
my '94 for a couple of days now — canceling out on at least 2 because
of "backorder"/not in stock—having to wait anywhere from 7 to 10 days. What's up with some of "popular" catalog cites. I've reached that part of frustration where I'll go to the local parts stores (NAPA, ADVANCE, AUTO ZONE) and get the FUEL PUMP & FUEL FILTER. And the popular on-line GM places can't guarantee the part and provide no PIX! Would it be a BIG MISTAKE going to the local guys or what? The GM prices are great, but
I can't tell what I'm getting! Alright all, pull my coat. What should I do?
I NEED TO RIDE MY RIDE. :mad

I've never had a problem with Advance, or NAPA, or AutoZone. I use my VISA, and if there's an issue they will reverse the charge, until it's resolved in my favor. I do that online often, but haven't needed to with local parts places.

I've had good luck with walbro pumps in fact I think they make most of the in tank pumps around. I paid a few bucks more for a Holley one time and when I took it out of the box it was a walbro.

I live in Chicago, but I always call Chris May at Superior Chevrolet in Kansas. 1-800-728-8267

Even with shipping charges I spend less than buying it from a Chevy dealer in my area.

Tell him you found him on this site and he will take very good care of you.

I would go with LT4man's advice and get the OEM pump from Superior. Techs that I have talked with in the Colorado area always say to use the OEM fuel pump and never buy an after market, no matter what one hears about the reliability of the aftermarket. Has to do with the OEM specs that are much more stringent than the aftermarket brands. I've replaced my fuel pumps only with OEMs.

I bought a Bosch pump for my 93 at Advance Auto Parts. I think it was about $100.00. They ordered one day and had it the next.

Like you I like OEM but sometimes the parts stores are cheaper and have name brand replacement parts. I also have had times when the dealer was the lowest price. The pump is one of the easiest things to replace.
