In fixing my overheating issue mentioned in my last post the mechanic said that after he fixed the car and backed it off the ramp he got the dreaded "Service Steering Column Lock" message.
He told me that according to GM he has to disassemble the steering column at 6 to 8 hours labour and possibly replace a module. Is there such a module? Is it necessary to replace anything in the steering column? The car has had the required recalls done by GM. The steering is not locked, it just won't go over 2mph. Am i correct in assuming that all I need is a CLB? Incidentally, my car is a US car and standard transmission.
Thanks again for the moral support and advice. This car looks to rival my XJS in terms of complexity.

I think I'm getting the drift on this problem. The "FIX" from GM actually does litle except remove the lock pins. All the other parts including the actuator are still there. My problem is like that this solenoid has failed hence the error code. I guess I just have to suck it up and wait for them to fix it so that I can install the CLB.

Being in the shop they might have run the battery down a little and that might cause the lock up. Before they start ripping things apart have them charge the battery and try to start it again. Hope that it will work for you and then get the CLB, the GM fix is very unreliable. Good luck, Zig.
