The pass.side headlite always comes up ok, but sometimes it will not go down without me going under the hood and turning the manuel knob abit. I have another moter that i could try,is this a tough job? Also the moter on the drivers side continues to run for about 10-15 secs after the headlite is already in position, is this normal? Keep safe ,see ya on the road! Doug Castner ,NY

It sounds like time for a bushing kit in both headlight motors. There is a $5 kit that you can get from Ecklers or Mid-America that adds three plastic bushings in the plastic gear that turns the headlights. The gear itself should be fine. A quick search in the C4 tech section should reveal several threads on this.

headlite motor bushings

How did the headlight motor problem work out? I have a similar problem but haven't taken the time to change the bushings. With mine, the headlights come up, the motor keeps running for about 10 seconds, but they won't go down. In fact, now when I turn the switch off, the motor doesn't even kick in. Was this the case for your pass side headlight motor?

I'll lay odds its your bushings. Go to Home Depot and ask for item number 595609. You will need six of these nylon spacers to repair both headlights. They cost me .69 cents (plus tax) for a pack of three at my local Home Depot store.

Much cheaper than the $7.99 price in MAD, Eckler's and some of the other specialty catalogs and they are the exact same Delrin spacers. Go figure.

If there's a TechTips portal on this Forum search under "headlight bushings." If not, let me know and I'll see if I can get you a copy of the instructions I used when I replaced mine a couple of months ago.

Do not buy the ones from Home Depot! They are not the right size, and you'll be rebuilding your motors again very soon!! I found this out the hard way!! Spend the extra few bucks and fix it right!!!!!!

Bushings and Actuators

The bushings were dust, I replaced them as well as the gears in both motors (MidAmerica). Problem was that I had left it long enough for the headlamp control module to burn out. BIG WARNING to people with this problem: Take the time to fix the bushings as soon as a problem is discovered or you'll be out another $180 for the module.

Very glad to have this taken care of, thanks to everyone for their help. Can't wait for spring!
