Opti Replacement???

I know the addage, if it aint broke, dont fix it. But I am having my water pump replaced after a long standing slow weep as well as the intake manifold oil leak fixed. The shop is suggesting I do the Opti while they are in there. I know from 94 on the Optis are are much better units, but I was looking for feedback to see if I should go ahead and eat it to be safe. The car runs perfect, but I do not know what, if any coolant has slowly leaked into the Opti over this long time period and or any oil. Also, when you remove the water pump, isnt there a good chance that coolant can leak and pour into the Opti during the removal process, which also concerns me.

And, while Im here, if the answer is replace, has anybody used that new Dynatech version that is supposed to be much more durable, etc.

The opti spark changed late in 94', mine was an early production and it had the old style. I had problems with my optispark before and the dealer dried it out and it was alright for a couple of years but this past winter I replaced the water pump and went ahead and changed out the opti spark as well with a dynaspark unit, an upgraded unit with the vents installed. When I took apart the old unit just to see how bad it was, I couldnt believe it was even running at all, I had problems but it turned out to be the computer but when I opened up the old optispark I still didnt mind replacing it at all, now the car runs great and I have a better piece of mind with new parts. I say go ahead and replace the old one while they are in there and might want to think about plug wires because they run behind everything on the front of the engine. Just my thoughts on it and good luck

Thanks, thats what I was thinking. Maybe I am confused, maybe I meant to say Dynaspark, not Dynatech, but either way, I will replace the Opti.

you had it right, dynatech is the company that makes it, same difference, and it is definately a quality part and its worked flawless in the months Ive had it on, if and when you get it, youll see the difference. Well worth the little bit of extra money it cost.
