iam in the process of replacing my opti-spark in my 94 C4 question: what is the difference between the opti-spark early design vs the opti-spark late design?
can i upgrade my 94 C4 to the later design opti-spark?
Also has anybody had any experence with DTE'S Dyna spark opti-spark? if so i'd like to hear from you, i'd like to hear your opinion.
thanks boonie

Here is the Corvette Clinic's site to buy the already done 'upgraded' opti-spark as mentioned/done in Corvette Fever for only $599.

Early vs late:

Similar, late is vented, air blows by to keep moisture from remaining.

Can you: yes, I did. Need new timing gears, timing cover, etc. I did this in conjunction w/ a new performance timing chain.

I think the dynatech one is pricy. The electronic components may be the same, in which case that component of reliability isn't better.

Why is it then, that Mid-America sells the distributor unit and the cap for 92-94, but only the cap for 95-96?

And the cap for the 95-96 is considerably cheaper.

What is the real difference?

The '95 and later won't work on 94 and older. It is driven differently. However, you can install the vent system on the earlier distributor. If you look, you can get a distributor for about $360 from a good auto parts place. And the hose kit from GM- for about $15-it's the same as the '95 and up, you'll also need a brass tee and a threaded nipple for the vent, and three vacuum tees for the bottom vent holes. Look at Corvette Fever's article.

By the way, you can use the '95 and later cap on the earlier distributor. If you're not going to use the vent, then you'll have to block it off. Just a tip, before you buy the cap, remove your distributor first, because you may just find the bearing shot, and will have to buy a new distributor any way. Just a thought.
