How can I find out what options my 1961 corvette came from the factory with?

Kelly,
The best thing is to look at the tank sticker.....Not really sure if the 61 had one but mine does and thats where they list everything put on the car. You have to drop the tank to see it....

No tank stickers till 67, so that won't help you. You'll have to search for "clues". Go through the list of 61 options, and check it out. No way to check engine options by VIN either, and no trim tag to check the original exterior/interior color combo's. The redline of the tach would give a clue as to the original engine. Hope this helps. Chuck

Kelly,

Here is a link to the Model Center 1961 Options Page or you can go to the top of the page and click on the tab "Model Center" then go to the 1961 page and see a whole bunch more stuff about the 1961.

There are a lot of members here in the C1 group that very knowledgeable about his generation of Corvette. Keep plugging away and asking questions. It's fun and frustrating trying to document our older Corvettes, wouldn't it be nice if they could just talk!

As Chuck said, it's all clue based. Unless you can get the original window sticker or invoice, it's almost impossible to know for sure.

Some clues are deceptive, too. If you had the power soft top option, the switch is just ahead of the courtesy light. But even if you didn't have that option (most didn't) the factory still drilled the hole for it through both the fiberglass and dash pad!:crazy

Kelly,

Welcome to the Corvette Action Center.

As was said above you have to be a real Corvette detective to determine how your car was equiped from the factory. Even then some options could have been added later and be totally undetectible from original. The only way to know for sure is original factory or dealer paperwork that came with the car. GM still maintains that there are no records on how individual cars were equiped.

I'll be glad to help try to point you in the right direction if you have specific questions.

Tom
