Can anyone tell me what an original parking brake console on a 71 is made of? Is fiberglass, plastic or something else? And should it have a vinyl cover like the shift console?
The one in my 71 is plastic and I suspect it was replaced when the interior was redone. (Its not even bolted down in the back!)
If it is supposed to be fiberglass/vinyl; where can I get one? I see one from Wilcox is about $40 but one from Corvette America is about $70, what’s the difference? Picture of mine at this link:
Thanks

Well .. I'll take a stab at it since no one else has.

I think it's plastic ... the ones I've had all seem to be plastic.

None of the OE-types I've had or seen had a covering (like the shift console does).

Yours appear to be OEM or just like original equipment. They're deinitely palstc- and crack in the middle like plastic.

Ok, Thanks for the info!
I wonder what the difference is between the $40 one and the $70 one.

Parking Brake Console

Just replaced my 71 parking brake console with a repo. Mine was original, and plastic, and cracked in the middle as most others. The repo looks close but for the grain pattern being slightly different than the original, but try to find a NOS!

Finally got around to changing my parking brake console this past weekend. Mine was the original which cracked too. It is made of plastic and that back bolt is one sweet pain in the #&s to get to. The replacement I had came with the car (never put in took me almost a year to get to it). The one thing I would make sure of is that it has all the proper mounts underneath to attach the back bolt bracket and the parking brake belt/band whatever you want to call it. I will tell ya....that back bolt is such a nuisance to get back in that I just gave up on it!!! If anyone has any tricks let me know....Im back boltless for now and dont really care!!!! Seems to be holding fine with the 4 screws
