Original Primer

[61 Silver]

Hi!

I have removed most of the paint from my 61, one re-paint Jewel Blue lacquer and what was believed to be the original Sateen Silver lacquer. The primer or undercoating is a black to a very dark gray in color and has a hard surface. When stripping the paint, the black primer reacted the same as the original red primer on my 65. Has anyone stripped a 61 or 62 and what type or color primer did you find.

Ray,
The original primer will be a dark brown as you described, and yes it is a ***** to strip since it soaks up stripper like a sponge! As Dennis said, the color will be behind the seat on your year.
