I've only had my '93 Corvette since March and have put maybe 700 miles on it but after driving it for about thirty minutes, the center console gets so uncomfortably hot I have to re-position my right leg as I can feel the heat. Recently it got hot and the engine shut down while I was in a drive-thru. Service ASR light came on and it took about 8 attempts before it started and I was able to drive it home. Any ideas why it runs so hot.

If your engine temps were in the normal range and not over 230F I doubt the heat from the transmission tunnel caused the engine to stall.

To see the digital coolant read out, keep pressing the Gauges button on the Driver Information Center until you see Coolant displayed in the dash cluster.

This displays the Engine Coolant Temperature in the Dash Cluster and is the sensor the ECM uses to turn on the coolant fans and adjust the fuel mixture.

The exhaust pipes run along side the transmission tunnel causing the heat build up. If you have headers it's even worse. Assuming a clogged exhaust isn't causing a heat problem you could try header exhaust wrap or insulate the interior sides of the transmission tunnel.

As for the Service ASR, that indicates a code is set.

Take a piece of wire and connect pin A to pin G on the diagnostic connector above the drivers right knee.
Turn the ignition On.
Look at the dash cluster.
Module 1 is the CCM
Module 4 is the ECM
Module 9 is the ABS/Traction Control

Connector pin out.

Sounds just like when the pre cats in my front y pipe plugged up. Not sure if a 93 has the same pre cat setup, but an "off road" y pipe from Mid America fixed my issue.

I'd start simple by checking your transmission fluid to see if the level is correct and the color of the fluid.
