Oxygen Sensor Simulators

As fas as I understand most 95 Corvette`s are OBDI while only some of them are OBDII. I also understand that the OBDI cars have one O2 sensor per side before the catalytic converters and OBDII cars have two O2 sensors per side, and also that in the OBDII cars one of the O2 sensor is on the exhaust manifold (before the catalytic converter) and the second one is after the converter...

I am also reading that the O2 simulators are used to replace the O2 sensors after the catalytic converters if these are gutted (emptied)...

One thing that I do not know is whether the simulators are used in OBDI cars if the converters are gutted (emptied) or not. Any comments???

Assuming your car has no O2 sensors after the cat, the computer is 'blind' to anything that goes on back there. that being the case, you can do whatever you want and the computer won't know the difference.

I am not 100% sure that OBDI cars do not have sensors past the cats though... that is something you will need to check out.

The reason why you need the sims on an OBDII car is the computer expects the cat to do something... when it doesn't (because it isn't there), it throws a code

Now you are confusing me buddy... YES, the 94 & 95 cars are mostly OBDI and YES they are supposed to have only one O2 sensor per side (total 2 in the car). BUT, hell NO the sensors are before the cats not after (i.e. between the cat and the engine).

Am I right on this???

Thanks Vettelt193. I guess I am getting closer to a conclusion that I will need to replace both O2 sensors. I was having a rough idle (engine stumbling) as well as SES fault light coming up. The rough idle did not happen at the same time with SES. SES happened almost always after 10 - 15 miles of driving whereas engine stumbling happened only now and then.

I think getting good O2 sensors and changing to a better fuel station will fix both the SES and idling problems. Fuel quailty in Turkey - unfortunately - is suspect.

Sorry to confuse you. To start, ALL 94-95 Corvettes are OBD I PERIOD. My friend has a 1994 Corvette and it has an OBD2 connector but is OBD I. When we swapped the exhaust we noticed 2 o2 sensor BEFORE the Cats, and 1 After the Cats on One side. Now with a scanner connected there is no data for the ONE sensor After the Cat.

I would still suggest replaing the 2 o2 sensor BEFORE the cats and it should help
