Pack Rat Addiction

Going through my garage thinking what I can get rid of to make more room. I come to realize that I have Pack Rat Addiction. Anything that looks like it might have a use I find difficult to throw out. I have odds and ends parts all the way back to 1962. How many people are holding on to an Olds 403? :L Not only is my garage a mess, I also have a small shed out at my brothers farm piled full. Another odd part, 1963 327 manifold with the WCFB carb on it. :L
What I wonder is, am I alone , are there any other people out there with the same problem? Maybe I need a support group.

Lets here it . Anyone else pack parts away ?

You are not alone.

I have a '79 Buick X-350 w/ turbo 350 stuffed in the corner of my garage, just in case. All the old parts off my Vette including a spare crossfire manifold are squirrel away on shelves in the garage too. Belts, plug wires, spark plugs,hoses,windows,spare hood for my winter car.
I need them for swap out parts for debugging and fixing temporary problems.

Ah sparkplug wires. 16x24 in. box stuffed full. Temporary fix. man do I hear you. I have cans upon cans of bolts and screws. The 62 impala hubcaps need to go to ebay. :blue: don't know what blue is for but looked good. he he

Let's put it this way, when I broke the strut bolt on my '87 Lesabre last month, I didn't have to buy one. I had a spare set on the shelf, bushings and everything.

I regretted dumping some rallye wheels for my '71 and the aluminum intake off the crate LS-6. Since then, I have old pistons, cams, valves, PLUS. I am again, however, downsizing. NE one need some '84 Z-51 wheels?

The upside of moving is the 'junk pile' stays smaller.

wouldn't be so bad , but I have half a wall full of salvaged computer parts. Couldn't leave well enough alone with car parts. :eyerole

I bet that is an IBM too. I finally dumped a 486 awhile back. I could put together a whole network with the parts I have.

Having enjoyed the 'therapy' of filling a trash can with worthless, obsolete computer stuff, I have a new path.

I once spent $400 to rebuild an XT, booted it only once. Not worth the wait, the effort to find an MFM drive nor the cash.

The only reason I still have the stuff is because they charge $45.00 a piece for recycling the old computer parts here in NY. Same goes for old VCR's and TV's.

Oh, yeah-bad! Chevrolet-not exclusive to Corvette...

2 327 motors, 1 307, 3 350's. I can't count the valve covers, including 7 and 9 fin Corvette, early 283, 327, 350, Weiand, Edelbrock-you get it.

Quadrajets?! You kiddin' me? Holding! Intake and Exhaust manifolds, timing covers, dampers. Tin. Stamped original hardware. And that's the Chevy stuff, I like Harleys, too...

I'll stop here before another 2 paragraphs...

I have two addictions...one is I am KOOO...(Keeper Of Obsolete Objects) But I also have to have the objects neat...I have boxes for computer parts. I have other boxes for car parts. All stacked and labled. :W Once in a while I will go through the stuff with the intent to throw things out...Well after a few hours of that I may throw out an empty can or magizine. :Silly

Actually, it's a Hyundai, couldn't afford the IBM....but unlike most computers today, this one could be used as a boat anchor. Must weigh at least 60#. I think I'll start collecting Vette parts.

My stuff is stuff. Everyone else's stuff is, well, you know. :ugh

The other fellows post about hoses and belts-yeah, got 'em. Caps? Radiator caps, gas caps, whatever...And hardware-what do you need? Gasket sealers, lubricants, spray can anything-got it.

It's an addiction. I can't help myself. But hey-it's in stock!

I still have leftover parts from the tube-frame Grand Sport I built in 1996, some Ferrari parts from the 80's (anybody need a cam cover from a 308GTS/QV? ), and who knows what else. I try to segregate useful stuff I don't need any more and cart it to our NCRS Swap Meet every April (peddled $1,200 worth last year), but that's a lot like work; I'd better start organizing/labeling stuff now for this year's meet. :eyerole
