How is the paint on the 05? O/Peel,about the same as C5? Panel align? Waves in the fiberglass? Thx. since I have not seen one close up!

Pretty good overall. O/peel same. Alignment almost perfect. No waves. Rearview window distortion on mine. Got the car on Thur. First thing i saw was the distortion, not a show stopper, but annoying at times.

I have stated that the paint job was worse that the C5’s I had but that was because of the 29 inch run in the clear coat on the chin part of the grill opening. By the way, the bumper covers are painted by hand in a different booth if I’m no mistaken. Last night I put it on the lift to change the oil and waxed it. With the lighting I had to use to find the residual wax on a silver car I have to say now that it beats the C5 finish hands down. Much less if any of what is called an orange peal finish. The ‘04 CE that I had was much worse in that area, the ’98 black was in between and a much better finish than the ’04.

I like the smoothness of the C6 finish but it still has some of the metallic blotching common to the silver paint. Since I have painted cars since 1956 I may be more critical of how the metallic colors lay. Unless you catch this finish just right in artificial light the average person won’t notice it. Great finish on the C6, their paint process update worked on my C6.

I would never recommend a color, to subjective.

Couldn't be happier with the finish on the car. Far and away exceeded my expectations. Debated between ordering Lemans Blue and Mag Red, ended up ordering Lemans Blue and ultimately changing to Mag Red since at production time LB not being produced. No regrets, the Mag Red is terrific.

I have two corvettes currently,

BLACK Z06 2003 and a Torch Red 2004 'vert. The paint is perfect on both!!

I hear on most of the message boards, people being upset with their paint.

I'm ALL good.

What changes were made in the painting process of the C6?

Finish

Hi,

We just picked our Baby up last week in BG, mag red, no orange peel that I've noticed so far, panel alignment great, no distortions or waviness in the fiberglass panels. The car is simply beautiful.

Yes, after our plant tour, I can verify that the bumpers are painted in a different area, then EACH one is visually inspected for flaws. If flaws are found it's stripped and repainted,... up to 3 times if necessary. If it fails the 3rd time, the bumper is then discarded.

Yes, distortion when i look out the hatch window ie through the rearview mirror. Much smaller view than my 98' & 00' and distorted, as in wavy . Not a show stopper but annoying.

There is a small amount of orange peel on my silver C6. I went through the showroom when I picked my car up, and every GM car in stock showed some at least some OP on the paint finish. My '99 BMW 528i had more orange peel than this though, so I don't think it's a big issue.

Every coupe will have some distortion out the rear window area. This is normal and has been described by GM in several dealer worksheets. I believe it's caused by the laminations in the safety glass. It in no way obstructs or compromises rear visibility.

Panel fit is excellent. Some of the gaps are larger than on some Eurpopean and Japanese cars, but everything lines up well and is even. There is absolutely no waviness on the panels themselves. Interior fit and finish is also quite good, the use of plastic on the center console not withstanding. The steering wheel design is too "heavy" for the car, but it does feel great when driving, so I don't really care.

Pretty darn good car!

FYI - Front & Rear Fascia is robotically painted

Tell that robot that he put a 29-inch run in my C6's front fascia and it's a different shade, as is the rear and the left front fender. There is no reinforcement in the paint process now, all robots?

Bobby1,

I did look close as I said in my post, what are you missing?

Robots don't listen very well.
