I've heard of a paint technique that sounds interesting, but I'm not sure about the details, or if it is actually real. Let me run this by you:

The car is painted some color. Full saturation, I believe.

Then a thin layer of black is applied.

The result is supposed to be a car that almost looks black, but you can see the other color if you look a little longer.

Sound right?

HEY SHARKIE: -is an expensive experiment, but if one indeed let's say had a silver or metalic-blue base-coat for example, if you then applied a layer of clear-coat in which you mixed a tiny bit (8%?) of pure-black (would have to be constantly sturred to keep the black distributed in suspension while spraying), --you might then achieve the effect you are after; --then finally laying-on an outermost-coat of pure-clear! Allthough I prefer Lacquer-paint to work with (Practicality: -is so very easy to spot-in repairs at any time later), -these newer 2-part & 3-part paints employing a catylist certainly open-up some interesting possibilities as you have eluded to (but the problem is, if you have to make repairs later, --it is rather impossible to do a stealthy-job spot-in, -because of the layered structure of the paint)... -B.B.
