I am debaiting on painting my car. One of the problems is that the paint is flaking off the front and back of the car (the poly parts). I have seen that there is an after market paint remover for fiberglass, will this also work on poly. If not what is the method to remove paint on poly parts, please don't say sand them.

Also when I have them painted, what is the additive that helps the paint flex and not crack. It seems that this was never added to the paint and therefore caused the flaking.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I had my car media blasted (baking soda) and was impressed with the work. You must get someone that has done Corvettes before if you are going to have this done. No matter which way you end up going weather its chemical stripping (not the way to go) or blasting, you are going to have to sand it at one point.

The flex agent is not needed, most flaking and pealing is due to age or improper prep work done to the surface before.

I just stripped my whole 87 front to back. On the urethane bumpers you must use the special urethane bumper stripper. This will not remove the factory paint. The best thing I found was getting as much off as possible with a pressure washer - then using the stripper afterwards.

Since it applies to Corvettes across the board, I felt it'd be better suited here in General Tech. ;)

the best i found is airplane stripper from auto zone, and lots of
shop thinner for cleaning the body off after you strip it.
I never had problems, and it works very well.
