...a totally incorrect BB hood (black on green, GM never did it)

Paul,

I'm not so sure that's true. Somewhere, in the deep dark reaches of my brain, it tells me that colour combination was indeed provided for. I just can't remember the interior colour combination it went with.

NOTE to Newbies: The stinger colour depended on the exterior/interior colour combination.

I have a stinger colour-combo list somewhere around here. Search...search...search. :W

Tom,
I sent you one of those instant messages that it seems did not get through. But basically the paintshop is 44 miles from Cornwall: north on #138 and slightly west on #417. I will get a pic of the hood a wee bit later.

Bob,
I'm going by the NCRS Judging Guide. But there may have been some that slipped out of the factory in black. Corvette history is fraught with inconsistencies!

Tom,
Here is a pic of the hood. The pinstriping is there but hard to see. This is an aftermarket hood I picked up used in Southern Ontario. The vendor said it came from Eckler's. It is hand laid, not press molded, but the price was right.

Thanks Rich. Despite very cool temps and the threat of rain I got out for an operations check this morning and all is well. I do this every spring after winter (commercial dead) storage as rubber this-and-thats tend to shrink, the Powerglide pukes fluid during storage (converter empties into pan with time), and more along those lines. Dropped in some fresh Sunoco 94 and she runs and brakes fine! Bring on the summer.

Paul,

I like the looks of the hood, great choice for a stinger color.

Paul,

The car looks really great. GM did a lot of things right with the Corvette, but not offering a black stinger on a green car was a blunder on their part IMHO - that black on green looks very sharp.

Thom

Thanks Thom. Of course my car is now more incorrect than before. I can't compete with the people with those big engines but after spending two hours today with Simple Green getting that sand-dust out of the engine compartment, the old 327/mouse sure looks pretty. With an Edelbrock #1406 and a phenolic 3/8" heat spacer I had to go to a 2" air filter. (I had boil-over problems with the Holley.) Bonus prize with the incorrect hood is that I may try on the original 3" air filter again!

Thanks Barry. I do work at cleanliness. It's not show or NCRS but it's a pretty car.

As I was working the scrub-brush and the Simple Green I thought of you. Hope my 2 1/2 month job and my display of pleasure at the outcome of the paintwork did not offend you. It certainly was not intended to do so. With the news of today re your arm I was feeling kind of sheepish after posting this thread. I had hoped for a virtual Forum party for our dual paint "comings-out." We were closely aligned for that. But I guess it can still happen with someone else driving home! Post pics. Thanks.

Thanks everyone. I am ready for summer with a totally incorrect BB hood (black on green, GM never did it) on a 327 base car with Powerglide. And American Racing wheels. And a passenger side mirror for safety. Sacrilege! But I am doing it my way (Frank Sinatra). The twits who give me a hard time this summer re originality........Well.

BTW, I am a member of NCRS. But something says this is what I want this car to be.
looks great.....and I miss the passenger side mirror....haven't put one one, but every time I back up I wish it was there....can't see a dang thing out over there......good for you putting one on!!!

I got the right/passenger side Bowtie version from Corvette America about a year ago. Never had the nerve to do the drilling in the glass. It does make a difference on backing up and changing lanes. Good investment!

why would it offend me Paul? i'm thrilled you got your car done and it's easy to see how happy and proud you are of her. i love seeing pics of your car and strive for the day mine will look as meticulous as yours does.
when mine gets home my wife will be sure to take pics and you will see them :)
