Hi, I just bought a 69 that the prior owner had owned and raced for the past 33 years. He had mounted over sized tires and, as a result, ground off the parking brake cable brackets on the trailing arms. I've looked in some of the parts catalogs (Paragon / DocRebuild) and was unable to find the brackets. Does anyone know where I would be able to find a couple of these brackets? If buying the brackets is not an option, a friend of mine has a machine shop. If someone could provide the specs and dimensions, I could get them manufactured. Thanks....

Van Steel (Florida) and Bair's (Pennsylvania) probably have them - both rebuild trailing arms and make custom offset trailing arms, and have all the parts.

The OE brackets were part of the rear arm. They were never available separately. All they were will L-shaped brackets made of flat stock with a hole punched in them for the ends of the p-brake cables. Should be pretty easy to fab-up a set and weld them on.

Welcome to CAC F14JetJock.

Are you transitioning to the Super Hornets anytime soon? If you ever get over to the East Coast on a x-country and think you might stop for gas in Beaufort, send me a message. I run the ATC facility there.

Culprit

Thanks for the feedback. I'll give Van steel and Bair's a try....

Sorry Culprit, my last transition was to the B-747-400. I did fly the F-14 A,B and D, F/A-18A,B and C at VX-4.

John,

Hud'n Hud'n ...still no Migs. Hey, thanks again for the info on the triling arm brackets !!

Bill, so after getting acquainted with Grumman and McDonnell-Douglas' fine line of products you decided to give Boeing a try as well. You're hitting for the cycle.

John, the Corps still flies a couple of F-4's out of Cherry Point. Well, let me re-word that - the Corps still maintains a couple in operational condition. The retired pilots that now work there at NADEP keep em running and fly them about once a month or every other month. We always put a student controller on when they taxi because we know that they'll get some good on the job training on how to handle an emergency when the F-4's come back to recover. Of course there's a senior controller plugged in right beside him with his finger on the override switch. The crash crew and recovery guys working the gear usually get some good training out of it too setting up for traps when the pilot doesn't have a good feeling about his chute.

You know, Culprit, I hate to tell John that my last job in the Navy, at Point Mugu, was testing missle / aircraft interface.... by using F-4s as targets. Ah well, probably be using the Tomcat as a target, in the near future.

Don't worry, your secret is safe with me - I won't tell!

"Interface," such a benign sounding word for such a "dynamic" test. ;LOL Bet you had some really good days at work there.

We'll either be using the Tomcats as targets, or strip them of some electronics and sell them on e-bay, so to speak.

gee, and i thought i was someone when i flew a Cessna 152 on my birthday!

The F-4B was an ugly bird on Final (no slats), and was ugly in close-in air-to-air with no guns (only Sparrows and Sidewinders); with an 18,000# ordnance load, we had eight minutes to find a tanker after climb to 32,000 northbound, or we were a brick :eyerole . Glad I don't do that for a living any more :)

Good tip about Bair's. They had the brackets and they are on the way. It was great talking about airplanes too. Flying the heavy metal, you don't get the opportunity to wave your hands around and shoot down your wrist watch too often.

Thanks again
and Robin74 ....Very cool thing to do on your Birthday. I'll bet you drove the Vette to and from the airport !!
