Partitions.. where and are they any good?

Whats the best options for partitions? i've heard of them not fitting well and weighing 20 pounds, these things just don't
sound very good.
do they really do anything?

I made one for about 12 dollars.

I went to home depot got some insulation board, took out the floor mat and matched the carpet at some Job Lot store..

Cut the insulation board, cut the carpet to fit. Sprayed on the glue and it was done.

Cuts down the noise and just squeezes right in and stays.

The glue I chose was not the best so I had to shoot it twice to get it to stick. .

Cuts down the noise a bit yet I like the sound of the car so after a few months of it installed everyday.... I believe I'm only going to use the partition on long trips.

I am glad I did not waste my money on expensive versions.

Even though this piece I built weighs all of a pound or two..I no longer have the desire to use it everyday and would probably say don't spend more than a few dollars on it if you decide you want it.

I have heard eklers sells the cut piece for 33 dollars..then all you need to do is carpet it. I think you will find the color carpet a lot easier than you could imagine. Just use the floor mats as a guide in the stores for color matching.

I certainly would not recommend spending 300 dollars or more on it.. (again..jmo fwiw)

make your own

I made my own for about $25.

I used 1.5" foam insulation from Home Depot. Its solid foam, not the kind that 'pushes in'. It weighs about 2-3lbs max. Fits perfect, stays put and does reduce noise..

That being said. I have not carpeted the back side of mine yet as I am going to get some additional sound deadner (dynamat or other) and install it on that side and turn it around. It does deaden noise now.. but I want to get a little more out it if possible.

I love the separation of trunk and cabin! Well worth the 1 hour I spent building it! Bang for buck... best mod yet!

They can work if the right material is used. The noise level is cut a bit, and the underlying frequency is changed to a less obnoxious one. Done right, they look like they came with the car- or as if there was no opening to begin with. Some say the stereo sounds better with one installed.

I bought one of these (I'll tell you who if you ask) for about $160. I agree that it's a lot of money for a carpeted piece of fiberboard, but it's well made, with plastic edging, nice carpet (doesn't quite match though) and fits reasonably well.

That said, it really does cut down on the road noise, doesn't seem to impact the stereo sound at all and stays put in normal driving (i.e. remove it for track use).

I noticed that it doesn't fit tight - there is a gap at the top. On further reflection, this may be on purpose. If it was an air-tight fit, you may end up blowing it out when you slam the trunk. Keep that in mind if you make your own.

Yes, that's the purpose of the air gap, although the issue has been and is being debated elsewhere. If the carpet doesn't quite match, it may be that the partition was intended for a different Z. The '01 and '02 carpets are slightly different colors. I don't know about '03's.
