Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) light stays on

The PKE light in my 96 coupe stays on whenever the ignition os off. As a result, after sitting for a week with the light on, the battery is drained to the point where the starter will barely crank. The PKE system is inop and has been since I bought the car (reveiver is bad). The GM shop manual shows the PKE likght on the same fuse as the door locks so I don't want to remove it. Is there any other way to turn off this light and stop the battery drain?

With a fault/short like that in the receiver I think your only option is to remove the bulb from the DIC (if you don't intend to replace the receiver). Fairly painless.
