perf chip question?

was told car had perf chip when i purchased. how can i verify this? thank you this forum has been very helpfull,my first vette.Always wanted one since a was a kid. the car has many issues but working them out one at a time. HAD A VERY POOR IDLE,found out engine was swapped has 89 plenum,pre 89 runners and throttle body,will be drilling out plenum to allow air into plenum from iac.hope this helps my idle. thanks again for any advise.

You could pull the chip and investigate. Did the previous owner tell you the brand? Also do you notice anything about at what temps the fans turn on at? Sometimes aftermarket chips will turn the coolant fans on earlier.

Original GM chips will have GM labels on the underside.

If you dont want to pull the PROM out of the ECM, open up the PROM access panel and take a look. Stock PROMs have AC Delco on the chip. It is pretty visible under the PROM carrier without pulling the PROM. Also most custom cips have the name on the top. I have a Fastchip and they have the year and mods written on them. I think Hypertech does much of the same. At lest thats what my 85 has.

thanks for the info, took out computer gm chip,guess i was lied to .but still happy to have a vette.have found many problems,missmatched tpi,had a 88 throttle body on a 89 plenum,drilled hole in plenum now car idles properly.4 bad injectors,relaced all with 24# injectors from a lt1.have a adjustable pressure reg.what would be a good fuel pressure with these ? 43#? thanks again for all the advise.
