gotta tell you, I don't know of a time I have been so pi$$ed off. Just got the motor in, the 383 stroker is awesome, I gotta have 1 mile pushin the car in and out of the garage about one hundred times!!! and about 1.0 miles over the lake worth bridge (s.e.florida) to the ocean, take the car to the beach after 10 months of workin on her. I come up from the beach, and it is sittin real low, (2) slassed tires, rear only!!:mad The set of 255/60/15 T-As are brand new literly less than 3 miles one them. Then you think, well, as far as expenses (vette in particular) 2 tires don't cost much in the relative scope of things, but you are still so damm mad!!

Maybe I am trying to make things happen for a reason, or justify this madness some-how, but "after" I bought the set of 255s, before the vandelisim, I could not help but wonder with the look of the car, hooker side pipes, 383 with super victor intake, and the L-88 hood, if the 275s in the rear wouldn't look better? Does anyone have 255s front and 275s rear? I want to keep the 15x8 ralley rim. thoughts appreciated :( :( :( :Buttslap :Buttslap :Buttslap

Look back 2-4 years in old issues of VETTE or Corvette Fever. I remember them doing an article on over-sized tires on C3s, and at what point you need to relocate E-brake cable (I think).
Article in question showed a C3 with 295/60/15 TAs....

P.S.: at 'SOME' point, I think you'd need wider (than stock 8") wheels, or the tires would 'crown', or balloon-up' in the centers

Man that really really sucks man. I can never understand people that do things like that. I feel for you bud!!!

As far as those tire sizes...yes I do. They are aftermarket wheels (which, in another thread I posted, I almost lost my left rear while driving, ahhh...)

I don't have the greatest pics right now, but maybe this will help.

look-up a guy on the 'corvetteforum.com' in the C3-section by the name of 'The Money Pit'.
His sig says he runs 295-size tires on his C3 (on aftermarket wheels, tho...)

I am running 255 -60 on the front and 275-60 on the rear on American Torque Thrust 2 8" rims for 3 years now

Well my 78 Datona has a bit wider body that most C3's, so I get away with a bit more wheel and tire. anyway I have 295/50s on the rear with 10 in. rims. So I would say that if the tires fit right on the wheels, there should be any problems doing it.

Jon,

I also bought 275's for the rear of my L81. They're installed on the stock aluminum rims, and I have no problems.

If you can live without rotating the tires, then it's not a bad deal.

I also feel your frustration about the damaged new tires....:r

Hmmm...

I still need to replace my front tires. I was going to get the same as my current rear tires (255/60R15 Goodyear GTII's), but maybe I'll move those forward and get some 275/60R15 GTII's for the rear, if they will clear.

They'll be a hair under 3.5% taller than the 255's, but I can live with that error in the speedometer. If I want to go 70, I'll just have to put the needle a hair under 68.

well, I got the 275s for the rear they look great> Give it a beefy ollk, look good with the overall body look. As far as rotating them, I am not too concerned, This is a weekend driver, I am just hoping to burn them out before some one else cuts them!!! I never had the privlidge of lighting up the last new ones!!:mad

The overall dimensions are 255- 27.1 o.d. / 8.2 wide (tread)
275-28.0 o.d. / 8.9 wide (tread)

but you can really see that 7 tenths.
