Well I did it. I bought a 1995 C4 convertible /auto with 42000 miles on it for $17000.:_rock

The current owner had the opti and the waterpump replaced around 3000 miles ago.

My question is this. Has anyone come up with a permanent solution to the waterpump problems?? This is my first corvette and this seems to be the biggest problem I see people advertising. Is there a brand that is better then the rest or a method of installation / maintenance that helps the situation??

I look forward to all your responses :D

Congrats on the new C4 and Welcome to the CAC!

I had to have the water pump replaced on my C4 after I bought it (75,000 miles) - but I drove it another 60,000 miles with no problems - then sold it after I bought my C5. Hope you can do the same!

Water pumps are water pumps ,you'll be fine for another 10 years or so .Go for it ,drive it and grin a lot. Enjoy--Steve

Thanks all!!!

One more question. I have both scanner types obd1 and 2. Which one should I be ready for with a 95??

OBD 1 will work on your 95. You have a 16 pin Data line connector. You may or may not need an additional cable depending on what you have.

It's a car

It's a car drive it and enjoy it. Long before the water pump fails you will have other things to do to the car. This is a great site for information remember if you see three or four posts for a particular problem put it in it's perspective. Think of the thousands of owners who are not experiencing those type of problems. When we have problems we come here to find the others who may have knowlegde of what is happening to our cars that does not mean that every Corvette is suddenly going to do the same thing. Probable the biggest contributing factor to the previous owner having to replace the water pump and opti was the car was not driven enough to keep the seals from going bad. Now when you get the car fill it with premium and go drive it for about 300 to 500 miles the day you pick it up. I guarantee you won't be able wipe the smile off your face or put it away for the night.:v :Steer
