WOW that’s quick the way you were going I thought you wouldn’t be done till march of next year.

That looks real Nice!!!!!!!!!!

:beer Good Job Barry!!!!!!!!!

Looks real cool :cool

Thanks guys, i really appreciate the kind words! it especially means a lot to me considering this is the first time I've ever wrenched on my own car except to change out the fan clutch (with lots of help at Carlisle) and learning to do the timing in Sept.
I was REAL worried I was going to mess up badly throughout the entire project so I'm thrilled how it's turning out. :)

65, yep, clean and neat is the key! :beer

it's amazing, almost 5 weeks to take ot apart, clean, glass bead, and/or paint all the various parts than only 4 days to get it back together. It was almost anit-climatic. ;LOL

BTW
a special thanks to Bernie, BWmurph, who came over a few times and helped me out during the tough parts. I really would have been stuck with him. THANKS Bernie!

Also, another special Thanks to Bill B. with all his great advice and suggestions via email. He really kept me out of trouble in a lot of areas.

And ALL of you guys on here - well, I wouldn't even have considered starting something like this if it wasn't for all of you and knowing you are here as my back-up and my lifeline!

Barry,

What was used to get the intake and valve cover so clean? Glass Bead? Looks great!!

Tim

Looks great.....it really feels great when it is your own sweat and blood.

So how exciting has this got to be for you, Learning, seeing a noticable change,Wondering if it will actually work.

COME ON BARRY this is some great stuff here. I envy you I remember my first project simular to this it was like christmas day seeing the car run again

Looks REALLY nice, Barry. It'll fire up, don't worry.

Be careful tightening the Tower style clamps on the radiator hoses. Don't over tighten them.

Also, on your valve cover...I seem to recall that when we beaded them, one had a slight crack near one of the bolt holes. Chuck

Saopm, yes, trhe manifold and the valve covers were glass beaded. made a HUGE difference.

Bob, thanks! :)

Lucy, yep, it's much more satifiying than just paying someone to do the work for me.

Larry, yes, it IS pretty exciting doing the work myself. Even Linda got excited seeing the changes and improvements and seeing the car come back together. I'm pretty impatient to get the one broken valve cover back and the carb back so I can try to fire the motor up, see if she still runs now, and make sure there are no leaks. The day I can turn the key AND she fires up - THAT will be like xmas day! :)

Chuck, yep, you were right, those tower clamps are as much of a PIA to put on as they are to take off.
I recall one of them having a bit of a crack also as we were discussing it but for the life of me I couldn't remember where the crack was and on which cover. I guess this little incident pretty much confirms it was THIS cover and around this particular bolt hole. It makes sense doesn't it? Since I knew I didn't overtighten it when it cracked this must have been where that previous crack was and it was already very weak.
I might have to ask you if I can use your cabinet again to re-glass bead this cover when it comes back from repair or to do another set if I have to replace this because it's not repairable. I'll let you know. :beer

Looks really good Barry. Is that a new temp sending unit I see in one of the pics?

thanks! :)

no, it's still the "old' temp unit that I installed last year that reads 30* too high. I'm trying to find an old original unit from a junk yard but no luck yet and buying yet another Wells TU5 like this current one probably won't make much difference in the readings so I'm not wasting my time doing that.
From the feedback i've gotten when I've posted about the temp sender units even the new units advertised as "correctly calibrated" are mostly off also so I'm not wasting my time or money on those either.

Thanks John! :)

BTW, thanks again for the call last night and the suggestion on the alternator belt issue. It worked perfect and the belt went right on as soon as I tipped the unit forward after removing the lower bracket rear bolt.

Wow!

Nice job.

NiiiCE!

Looks good, Barry. Nice job. I hope you get that valve cover "thang" sorted out. :)

See you at Cruisefest '06?

Rick

:w

kid, thanks :)

Paul, yep, it was a VERY steep learning curve. But you also know i blame YOU for getting me into this. You constantly posting pictures of your pristine engine compartment! :D

Rick, i'm i'll get it sorted out one way or another.

nope, no cruisefest for me this year unfortunately but you will see me and BABY at Carlisle if you go.
