Finally got my Cragars with some BFG TAs installed on the car. I took the car to Traverse City over the holiday weekend and brought it to the Cherry Festival/Hagerty Insurance Auto Show. One of the previous owners of the car that I've become friends with saved me a parking spot. (The car was from the Traverse City area.) Eventually the original owner of the car showed up, as he usually attends this show. I had talked to him on the phone before, but this was the first time I had met him. It was pretty cool. He recalled some stories from his racing days with the car (he bought it, stripped it down and SCCA roadraced it for 3 years), and looked the car over and told me what had happened here, and here, and here, as he pointed to several spots. He must have said 3 times- "If you ever want to sell it, give me a call".
Later that afternoon, I drove the car over to Empire, about 25 miles away, where he used to compete with the car in a hillclimb. It was the champion for 2 or 3 years until he bought his '69 L-88. I found the hill and ran up and down it a couple of times. What a blast! All in all, a very neat weekend. Well, except for the part when the interior got wet from leaking during a thunderstorm.
Here's a couple of pics:
