I need a little help the other day i started my 96 grand sport and the PKE light stayed illuminated. the battery is good in the fob but nothing responds. Any sugestions would be appreciated..

You need the Factory Service Manual's section on diagnosis and service of the Passive Keyless system. Without that, you're guessing. You can buy FSMs from Zip Products.

thankyou i had the feeling that is what it is going to come to i am a toyota technition, tomorrow i will hook up my obd 2 scan tool and see if it gives me a clue love the car. lol hate the PKE..

funny thing this may be be unrelated but the problem started last night i was working late pulled the car out of the dealership shop and parked outside to get ready to go home locked up the shop and went to the car the odd thing was the rear hatch was open i thought thats strange because i did not release it . so i shut it then all of a sudden the pke was not working so i manually opened the door with the key then the like for pke came on.. oh well you hace to love those electricle gremlins.. the car is also covette grand sport number 12 daily driver.

Please pardon my bad typing it has been a long day

While waiting for your FSM you can try this. The dlc is under the the left trim panel about where you left shin would be.

And the PKE diagnostic system works as follows:
With pins 4 and 8 connected, the PKE light in the Driver Info Centre will flash the codes.

Here is the list of DTCs and what they mean:

DTC #12: Receiver Memory Bad
DTC #13: Transmitter Not in Range
DTC #14: Non-Valid Transmitter Received
DTC #15: Valid Transmitter Received
DTC #16: Passenger Door Button Depressed
DTC #17: Hatch Button Depressed

You might check the door switches for proper operation.

Problem started while on the dealer's lot, huh?

PKE frequency matches one of the new cars on the lot? Salesman might have lost a sale cause your GS 'intercepted' the signal to a ricebox, and opened your rear hatch instead. :D

Mine has been giving me probs too. The light flashes but doesnt stay on so I think the rec is ok, but I also walked out twice to find my hatch open. Not sure what that means but now my fob doesnt work at all.

I will be diving into the FSM as well but thought I'd sub to this thread as well to see what you find.

Odd your hatch did the same thing i think its related if i find a solution i will post going to start diagnosis later today

Just curious...I was looking at your ID. Do you own GS VIN 00012?

Were you down at the NCM C4 Gathering last weekend?

On the PKE...I didn't have a lot of time yesterday, but I have more today...

You'll still need the FSM for the diagnostic proceedures and the section in the book on that system is extensive. The codes themselves are as listed above, but...PKE has a volatile memory, so there are no history codes only current codes. Remember to write down the codes you get. Also, another important piece of infomation which is not in the above post is that to get codes you jump DLC pin 8 to ground. but the key must be in the ignition switch but the switch must be off. You can't get PKE codes with the key on.

PKE does not send serial data so a scan tester is useless.

The PKE system also cannot be read by CCM diagnostics so the only way you can get the codes is with flash code diagnostics.

Good luck.

thanks for the reply hib yes i own gs#12 i am a toyota technition but excuse my ignorance when you say fsm i assume service manual which i will order this week been awhile since i have worked on corvettes mostly c3 generation so i am off my game..lol...on toyota at the dlc 3 connector you jump pins then count the light blinks to get the codes which i assume is the same but you said with key in ig off. oh yea history on gs#12 of the 1000 built its the only one of its kind with its combo of rpo's have the certificate from gm and the grand sport registry. have not been to any events lately because the toyota recalls lol have kept me real busy so finnaly got a day off to chase this gremlin...

just FYI I did the following:

Move all transmitters out of range.
2. Turn the ignition key on.
3. Push TRIP OD0 on the Driver Information Center twice.
4. Within five seconds, press and hold FUEL INFO until the PASSIVE KEYLESS ENTRY light comes on.
5. Turn the ignition off, but leave the key in the ignition. The PASSIVE KEYLESS ENTRY light should begin to flash to show the system is in programming mode.
6. Bring one transmitter into range. The light will stop flashing and stay on to show that the code is stored.
7. Move the transmitter out of range. The light should start flashing again.
8. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 with each additional The programming mode will shut off if transmitter.
You don’t program any transmitters for two minutes.
You take the key out of the ignition or turn the ignition on.
You have programmed three transmitters.

My rec acted normally and flashed but the light never went steady, so I suspect a bad fob. May or may not help you but since we are looking into the same system...

at toyota the factory testor we use is called techstream the lap top is by panasonic with a outer shell or protector made by snap on
