PKE original or aftermarket?

The PKE on my 93 may or may not work. When I bought it, there was no key fob. Three weeks ago it popped the hatch while I was traveling about 75 mph on the highway, which was a bit unnerving. It also cycled a few times continuously popping the hatch and unlocking the doors. I removed the fuse.

My question is this, which is more advisable, getting a key fob, having the dealer (I guess) program it so it will work or, just get an aftermarket system and have it installed?

You can get the key fob on ebay for $50-80 range.

The owners manual tells how to program it to the car or do a search as people have posted the sequence before.

Strange simptoms ??
Not sure just haveing the key fob will correct this ??

A normally functioning system will not allow the rear hatch open while the car is running. It will only open with the car parked with the ignition off. If it opened on the freeway, you have another problem besides the fob.

Which is why I asked the question. Should money be spent getting the present system to function normally, or would it be wiser to simply get a newer aftermarket system and avoid the possible hassles.....

I have the stock system on mine. From reading around the forums, it seems like some folks don't like it. I think it's great.

I suspect that either way you decided to go would work fine. After all, it's just stuff that opens the car.

However, having it in some sort of broken condition where the hatch can open unexpectedly while the car is in motion is very scary!
