When applying and lifting the gas I get what appears to be excessive play in the drive train. Normal? Or am I looking at major/minor problems? My first thought is u-joints but I just want to make sure that there isn't something bigger here. When I lift off the gas and let the engine slow the car and then step back onto the gas there's a split second before it seems to engage. Any help or comments would be appreciated. The car has almost 137k miles on it and it's gotten some spirited driving on it for many of those.

DANGER! Block the wheels. Take the car out of Park. Either roll it up a block or jack it up but in N you want to be safe going under the car.

Now you hold the main drive shaft out of the ring/pinion pumpkin housing. You might feel an inch or less is chalk the shield/chalk the housing. Now move the drive shaft and mark the housing. What is that measurement?

See, I haven't a clue. But if that shaft really moves a lot, then there is your delay and bump or the ring and pinion are in need of a tighten up on the = Everything!

At 130 plus, she did good for all that throttle beating is she can still last a long time is live with the bump at a somewhat high miler, high performance car.

I would think your half shafts would drive you in one direction is why I am thinking more to check the main shaft first, then swing the half shafts and measure how off each one is on that sorta chalk line. Sounds drive train on the delay, imo.
