could one of you with the stock distributor please trace the tach wire from the distributor to the firewall, so that I will be able to find the one on my car. I have looked all over for it and can't seem to find it. I lost the wire after pulling, rebuilding, and then reinstalling my engine.

Thanks for the help guys!!

Chris,

I'll take a look tonight after I get home, or tomorrow morning, Hope someone else can provide you the information sooner ;)

thanks bud, it's going to be a little bit before she's ready for the street again anyway, I need to get the exhaust bent and put on first, she's a little loud with just those dynomax headers =)

O.K. See what you've done now?

quickjagg,

I was going to wait and reply with a definitive answer. I just finished installing the heads and cam yesterday, and ran it in. I connected a handheld tach for the run-in and lobe polishing. Good thing, since I, too, couldn't find the wire for the tach connection at the distributor. I think I may have inadvertently connected it to the EGR vacuum solenoid (DOH!).

I should know by tomorrow when I finish running the valves for hot lash again (those lobes DO get a little shorter on break-in) and tweak the carb and timing. If my memory is any good, it should be a white wire, but I'm not sure of anything any more...

Hopefully, I'll have an answer by tomorrow, or be another victim of the epidemic. Unfortunately, the photos I took before disassembly don't have a good angle on the distributor, and I cannot edetermine the wire or connector color. The schematics show a gray wire to the EGR solenoid, so I think I screwed the pooch on that one.

QJ,

The TACH wire is supposed to be pink w/ a black tracer, according to the diagrams. What I found was more dirty white in appearance and had no visible tracer. There is a red plastic single connector on the end and a piggybacked test connector on a 2-3" lead hanging out of that connector. The "faded white" wire routes to the tach filter mounted to the EGR solenoid bracket. From the other side of the tach filter can, it continues to the firewall/instruments.

Hope that helps.
