I recently bought a 75 roadster and would like to determine how #'s matching it is. I know the vin number and have been trying trying to match it to the engine. I have identified a number toward the fire wall on the engine as I look down from the passenger side standing about even with the side view mirror. It's on the transmission (I think). Anyway could anyone correspond to walk me through identifying these numbers? I would really appreciate it! I guess when you own one of these bad boys you have to start somewhere, thanks!

Welcome to the CAC!

The last segment of the VIN should be stamped on the engine block in a pad reserved for that purpose just ahead of the passenger's side valve head.

I'm going to copy your thread over to the C3 Forum and hopefully someone can post a diagram or picture to illustrate where it is found.

There is a pad on the block at the front of the right head. The engine identification code (large characters) and VIN derivitive (small characters) will be stamped there. Jot down both numbers.

The pad might have road gook on it, so you might have to clean it to see the numbers. AC compressors and AIR pumps can also get in the way.

The block casting number is on the rear flange of the block on the driver's side, where the transmission bolts up, and the block casting date code is on the passenger side rear flange, about 6" toward the passenger side from the distributor. The engine plant date/suffix stamp (larger font) and assembly plant VIN derivative stamp (smaller font) are both on the machined pad on the block directly in front of the passenger side cylinder head. The last six digits of the VIN derivative stamp on the front pad should match the last six digits stamped on your VIN plate in the windshield opening.
