thanks guys for all your input on spark pluigs. i ended up getting my mechanics reccomendation of ac delco double platinum plugs. now i have to decide what kind of wires i want. i really would like some "high performance" wires. should i go with MSD 8.5? Taylor? i really like msd but i have heard they have problems with LT1 motors? is this true? what are you guys experience with wires?

I installed a set of red MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor wires on my 92 LT1 before I headed out on the 50th Anniversary Caravan. No problems at all and between those wires and a set of NGK Iridium plugs, I picked up about 1.5MPG. MSD wires are supposed to have the least amount of electrical resistance per foot of any of the HP wires available. Try Summit Racing for pricing. www.summitracing.com

When I removed the OEM AC Delco platinum plugs, all of the little platinum "pucks" were gone from the ground electodes and the plugs only had 33K miles on them. Unless the AC Delco plugs have changed their design, I would avoid them like the plague. The biggest problem with the MSD wires is that they are wider than the 7mm stock wires. I had to modify the wire looms to get the MSD wires to fit and I never did use all of the factory looms.

I did the wires and plugs myself. It is a challenging job and there was much swearing, blood and beer involved.

While I like the looks of the MSD wires and they are a very good HP wire, unless you intend to do engine mods in the future, the OEM AC Delco wires will work very well. You might check out the GM Performance Parts catalog to see what GM has for performance plug wires. Taylor also makes a good 8mm wire.

doesnt MSD sell aftermarket looms though? i imagine somebody would sell looms to fit aftermarket wires

There are aftermarket wire looms available, but if you look at the factory routing of the plug wires, it might be pretty difficult to find any. All I did was to use a Dremel to enlarge the holes in the plastic clips to the size of the MSD wires.

GO with AC Delco wires,They have been good for millions of cars and millions of miles. The others seem to be more EYECANDY than funtional!!!!! There to short, there to long, there to fat(8mm) . Aquality set of wires (no matter what is advertized) will work well. I assure you your spark plugs and your BUTT wont know how much you spent or what color they are!!!!!!!!!!!!:L :w :_rock

I run MSD wires on our race car and I put them on my RV which eliminated a long standing popping under load problem. When I get some time they are going on my 84 Vette also.

Over the years I have tried every possible kind of wire from Accell to Taylor to Mallory to Delco and have not found anything better than MSD.

But that's just my .02
