Has anyone used Taylors 8mm wires on their LT4. I have priced them at Thunder Racing and while the price is very attractive (under $60) I'm thinking maybe they are not as good as I need or want for my toy.
I'm also looking for some advice on ACDELCO rapidfire plugs, has anyone used these with good results and are they better then the stock 41-943 plugs.
Hope everyone has a Happy New Year.

Bill

The first question I have is why you are trying to upgrade the wires... do you have high miles?

The factory ignition system in general is very good, and there is not much to be gained unless you have a built up engine. The money is usually far better spent on other items for more power....

Plug wires

I'm not trying to upgrade, its time for replacement (71k) I can see and hear the wires arcing, have noticed a miss at idle and low speeds. So I'm going to try the plugs and wires first before I head to the optispark. Otherwise the car runs good. No codes as of yet. The engine does have some mods, headers, ported and polished heads/intake, hot cam, 52mm throttle body.

I have stock (50K miles) but I've seen posts re: Taylors are excellent wires.

I had very poor experience with Taylor wires, both workmanship and performance issues. Ended up replacing them with MSD wires and have been very satisfied with results - have run them for past two years in autox with good results, along with NGK TR55 plugs.

Plugs and Wires

I just turned 60,000 miles on my 96 LT4. In the 2/04 issue of Corvette Enthusiast Magazine pg 36-37 was an article testing the Bosch Platinum Plus4 along with TPI specialties wiring. I sent away for the wires--- www.tpis.com part 300-012 about $80 ---and I am getting the plugs--- part #4458-- from a local parts store ---about $64. The dyno results in the article show show about 5 hp improvement from top to bottom and about 6 ft/lbs of torque [10 at the bottom end]. The article claims you will really 'feel' the improvement. We will see.

Thanks for the reply Danny, as you can see there are mixed results from all users, so I guess the best thing to do is try it and see. As for my car I bought the Talor wires and will probably stay with the acdelco 41-943 plugs as they seem to be ok for now, even though I did pick up a set of rapidfire #14 plugs at Walmart cheap.
keep me posted on your results.

I have the Taylor 8mm Spiral Core that I bought from Summit Racing. I wanted red wires to match the LT4 wires that were on it. I had to drill out all the wire looms so that the larger wires would fit, and look stock. I am pleased with the Taylors so far....no problems here.

The only time I've tried to use Taylors on a Vette with a Gen 2 was a 92 LT1, however, for the purposes of this discussion, the LT1 and the LT4 are alike.

My friend installed the Taylors on his 92 and immediately complained of misfire. I went over to his shop and we ran the motor in the dark. There was obvious and constant arching at #2 and some arcing elsewhere. On close examination, I found that the Taylor plug connectors--these big "boxy" looking things--were actually touching the surrounding head material near the plug hole. With them touching and the material of which they were made not enough of an insulator, the spark would arc, though the connector to the head (ground). As soon as that arc happened once, a carbon path was made and the arching continued eventually burning a hole in the connector.

The only solution was to trash the Taylors and replace them with MSD SuperConductors. Once that was done, this guy had no more problems with the car. He finlly sold it in 98 to buy a C5.

If Taylor still makes their LT1/LT4 wire sets with those big, boxy connectors, the wires are not acceptable for use on a Gen 2 engine.
