Have a 74 454 all original with Quadrajet. Runs perfect for about the first hour or so then idle drops from 800 to 500 or even 400 PRM's. Runs rough and will even stall. Water temp is only at 160 to 180. When it stalls I have to crank alot to get started. Thinking this is a float adjustment problem, set to high. Need to lower it so when carb gets hot gas doesn't expand out into the engine flooding it. Just rebuilt the carb last year and I know I set the float level rather high do to many complants about the quad having a small float bowl volume. Anyone solve a problem like this? Also, I do have the factory heat plate under the carb. I can't remember if I have it directly under the carb with the gasket under it, or on top of the manifold with the gasket on top of it. Anyone know for sure how it's suppose to be installed?
